Monreale | Sicily

Description

Hey there! Seems like I haven't uploaded anything for ages, but I'm back!
Last week I've been to a school trip in Sicily, and I must say that Monreale (near Palermo) is what I loved the most. Maybe because I had already seen Greek temples in Paestum (near Naples) so Syracuse didn't impress me too much (of course I loved it, but not as much as Monreale) and about other cities on Sicily, the reason is the same: I have seen many cities in Italy, and somehow I came to love Monreale more than others.
Anyway, this is the cloister of the main church in Monreale, and it's the most amazing thing I have ever seen. I mean, look at those Arabian elements :lovely: and also the garden, with its huge trees... definitely amazing.

Great photo!  I came across this photo by accident but it caught my attention for a number of reasons.

I live in the U.S., but three or four generations ago(between 1900 - 1910) my family immigrated from this part of sicily.  My surname is Morreale, which is supposed to have evolved from Monreale, from which the family originated.

I've never been to Monreale, and to be honest don't know much about it. So when I stumbled across this it really seized my attention.  It is a beautiful photo, and the enthusiasm with which you describe it makes it even more intriguing.  Seeing this is very motivating to learn more about the city.  Thank you for sharing:)
