I think it'd be a cool fic (if it doesn't exist already), to re-write Fires of Pompeii with Mr Roman Capaldi actually being the 12th Doctor in disguise. 12 has to pretend he's a Roman, because it's bad enough that 10 is crossing his timestream, let alone what crazy shit would happen if 10 knew that was 12. Roman-Capaldi's family could be 12's companions.
And then you could twist the plot, so crazy shit does ensue, and 10 can be all like, "WHAT?!" when he discovers that that Roman guy that bought his TARDIS and put it in his house is actually 12.
